The Disability Allies developed a partnership with Easter Seals New Jersey and is running a four day pilot program at their sheltered workshop in New Brunswick for their consumers. The program pairs up consumers from the Easter Seals Day Program with college students from Rutgers University, who socialize with and engage them in a variety of organized activities.

West Orange
Disability Allies and West Orange High School teamed up to host Mountaineer, Care day! Students with disabilities at West Orange Highschool were put into teams and paired up with mentors. The mentors and the students worked together to complete challenges that promote teamwork, understanding, and growth. At the event we had a mentoring panel where individuals with disabilities who have overcome challenges will have the opportunity to share their experiences and answer questions from the audience. Mountaineer Day was designed to foster a better understanding of disabilities, to improve social and teamwork skills, and to celebrate diversity

The purpose of Transition To College Day was to pair up college students at NJIT and High School students with disabilities and help them with the transition process into college. 45 High School students from Newark, Millburn, West Orange`and Elizebeth Public schools took a field trip during the school day to attend our event.

TThe BBQ in the Park was cosponsored and hosted by the Disability Allies, NAMI Young Adult Social Club, Neurological Impairments and Brain Injury Resource Center, The Alliance Center for Independence and Shift Transition. We had a variety of fun icebreakers,activities and a BBQ lunch. Additionally we held a Learning Disabilities Workshop to discuss study strategies and spread awareness about different Learning Disabilities.

We partnered with the Future Teachers Association at Rutgers University to organize Sunday Funday. The point of Sunday Funday was to pair up young adults with disabilities with college students from the Future Teachers Association. The event was composed of tasks and activities that will be completed with a buddy or team. The goal of the day was to help young adults with disabilities with their social skills, problem solving skills, and to have fun!
